Kalita Wave Brew Recipe April 2018 – Coffee

It is after many (many) years of brewing V60 – I have purchased a Kalita Wave 185!

** Disclaimer – I’m no expert – This is a set of rough guidelines, not written specifically for any particular coffee – I’m new to Kalita. **

“Despite pressure from nearly every coffee shop visited in the last 2 weeks, I’m sticking with Hario V60 and not moving to Kalita Wave.” – Adam Machin 2016

Preparation, kettle with 500ml of Brita filtered water boiled, coffee ground manually with Knock Aergrind.

-1.00 minutes
Grind 15g of coffee. Rinse papers. Heat vessel.

-0.30 minutes

Kalita Wave white 185 papers.
After adding 15 grams of coffee – shake to flatten coffee bed, depending on the coffee.
0.00 minutes
Add 50g of water, stir clockwise times with bamboo stirrer.
I pour clockwise 1-2cms from the edge of the Kalita.
0.30
Pour a further 100g of water, attempting as slow a pour as possible continuous.
1.00
At 1.30 I pour the remaining 100g in a anti-clockwise motion again continuous and slow.
1.30
I’m aiming for 2.30-3.00 for water to filter.
Could wait up 3-4 minutes for remaining water to filter to avoid wasting brew, however at 4.00 I remove the Kalita to try to avoid over extraction. Use as feedback to dial in for next brew.
